The announced political intention is to become climate-neutral by 2050, meaning human activity will no longer impact the climate after that year. But is this achievable? Absolutely not!Two main reasons prevent achieving this goal. The first is economic: insufficient resources are earmarked and allocated for this purpose. The second is substantive: CO2 neutrality does not equate to climate neutrality. Numerous factors determine the climate, and controlling just one does not mean controlling the entire climate. Consequently, the climate will always change, and human activity will influence that change.However, significant progress can be made by shifting the focus to reducing carbon dioxide emissions instead of solely targeting climate change. Dramatically cutting carbon dioxide emissions is feasible, and this book proposes practical strategies to achieve this. While these proposals might not suffice to achieve CO2 neutrality, they are practical steps that could significantly slow the future increase in atmospheric CO2 concentrations.Achieving even these relatively modest objectives requires a substantial increase in allocated funds and an undivided global political focus on reducing CO2 emissions. To be successful, policies aimed at decreasing carbon emissions must disentangle from other agendas.
